Government guidelines for access to blue cards were updated on August 30 – the details can be found here.

Since Parkinson’s presents such a wide range of symptoms it does not appear in the guidelines, although mobility ratings for Personal Independence Payments (PIP) are taken into account.

As ever, local authorities will continue to decide who qualifies for a blue card. Town halls will also continue to foot the bill for providing blue card parking spaces with all the additional access requirements these entail.

Blue cards were the subject of a public consultation in 2018 – the findings are posted here, while the scoring of PIP assessments is discussed here in a document that goes back a few years.
